New comment mode: Default (and some hints about more features to come)

Until now, it was almost impossible to close all comments in one go, if you're for example under spam comment attack (at least, if you didn't have direct access to the database). Not anymore, the Blog editor defaults now to the "Default" comment mode, which means it takes, whatever is set in blogDefaultPostCommentMode in the Site-Options during a new comment entry.

If you want to keep for example all your comments open all the time, you set blogDefaultPostCommentMode to "Always allow comments". But when you're under a comment spam attack you can set this temporarily to "No comments allowed", until the spammer goes away or the comment-spam-detection in Flux CMS is updated.

You can of course set the comment mode for each post entry individually, disabling for example comments just for one post.

We have some ideas for further comment modes like "Moderate", where you have to approve each and every comment before it goes online and "Friends only", where only friends can comment.

Who's your friend will be handled by the soon-to-come OpenID authentication and will be up to you to decide. The "Friends" feature will also not automatically moderate or reject comments by friends (except when you set the post to "no comments allowed") and they will be able to see your "private" posts (without having to have an account for your blog like now).

Hi,

if i set blogDefaultPostCommentMode to "No comments allowed", it would be great to have the comment info at the end removed (comments...add a comment....trackback..."No new comments allowed (anymore) on this post.").

(And maybe have some kind of language file to load those messages in the page language....but thats a different topic.)

That would be a real good feature. Because (as I mention bevor) I'm very optimistic and set "Always allow comments" as default. But as I see Flux is very Google-Optimized and one day a spamer will hit me too. So this feature will make me ready for the war with (hopfuly never finding my blog) spamers.

The friend-only-feature is nice, but I think there are at the moment not enough peoples which have access to I site which supports OpenID authentication.

jnonimo: can be done. Both requests. It just needs a bit more logic (as I can close comments after some comments were done, I still want to display some comments related features in such a case.)
I'll look into it.

leo: 8 million livejournal users and all freeflux users (and soon potentially 37'000 swiss students :) ) have automatically an OpenID. And it will be hopefully more in the future. But if there's big demand of people not willing to subscribe to one of the services already providing an OpenID, we will think about providing something to easily get an OpenID, without having to open a whole new blog (but http://videntity.org will hopefully provide such a system, before we have the need for it :) )
